Mr. Zenon N. Katsourides - President

Zenon Katsourides graduated from the Pancyprian Gymnasium in 1957 and completed his studies in Shipmanagement, Economics and Accountancy in the U.K.

He subsequently worked as a Director of S.H. Maritime, as the Managing Director of Vergottis London Ltd (one of the oldest and most prestigious London based Greek shipping companies) and later on as a shipowner in his own right. He has also served for many years as Principal of the Baltic Exchange. Mr. Katsourides also served as a Director of the Central Bank of Cyprus, and from April 1988 to October 1991 as the Adviser to the President of the Republic of Cyprus on Maritime Affairs. He is credited with bringing a large number of Russian ships under the Cyprus flag, as well as encouraging numerous shipping companies to move here therefore successfully establishing Cyprus as the biggest third party shipmanagement centre in the World. For his efforts the Government of Cyprus awarded him in 1997 the "Cyprus Maritime Prize".

Mr. Katsourides has served for many years as Vice-President and Member of the Cyprus Shipping Council’s Executive Board and has chaired a number of the combined Government and C.S.C. seminars abroad. He is also a permanent member and Vice-Chairman of the Organising Committee of "Maritime Cyprus 1999" which was first organised and chaired by him in 1989 and 1991, and served until recently (and for two terms) as a Director on the Main Board of BIMCO (Baltic and International Maritime Council). He is also a Companion of the Nautical Institute and an Associate of the Institute of Marine Engineers.
