| Mr. Nicos Symeonides - Vice President
He graduated from the Greek Gymnasium of Famagusta and studied Law and Economics in the U.K. He also pursued on a Canadian Government Scholarship, post graduate studies in Economics in Canada. He holds the degrees of BSc (Econ), MA (econ) and is a Barrister at Law. After his studies he was employed in various posts at the Planning Bureau and on the 15th February 1982 he was promoted to the post of the Director of Planning. He served successively as Permanent Secretary of various Ministries, (Ministry of Justice, Education, Communications & Works, Health and Labour & Social Insurance). He served on the Board of Directors of many institutions and was a member of the Fullbright Commission and the International Maritime University. Additionally he was actively involved in the preparatory committee for the establishment of the University of Cyprus. He represented Cyprus at the European Committee on Crime Problems, the Council of Cultural Cooperation of the Council of Europe and the ILO annual conference. He also supported and participated, in his capacity as Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Communications & Works, in the organisation of the bi-annual Maritime Cyprus Conference and various seminars on Cyprus shipping in many parts of the world, with the then Adviser to the President on Shipping Affairs, Mr. Zenon N. Katsourides. In 1985 he was awarded an Eisenhower Fellowship. |
